Yes, Asesprite is one of the best pixeltools that is out there. But sometimes messing around with the payed licence can be annoying.
LibreSprite is a free and open-source alternative, that is very close to Aseprite.
How can this be possible, since the tool looks so much like a clone?

LibreSprite originated as a fork of Aseprite, developed by David Capello. Aseprite used to be distributed under the GNU General Public License version 2, but was moved to a proprietary license on August 26th, 2016.
So, the open source licence of the original version is still valid.
