Bootblock Rebels: The Amiga Crackers who deserved a Book
...the hidden crackers of the Amiga underground finally get their moment.
Before the demoscene had a name, there were the crackers. Groups racing each other to strip copy protection off Amiga games, slap their logo on a bootblock intro, and spread floppy disks across Europe.
Bootblock Rebels is a 200+ page book-project that documents exactly that world.
Author Steen Jessen (also behind the BigBookofAmigaHardware.com) spent serious time with ex-crackers, sysops, and suppliers. It draws on first-hand interviews, original scene material, diskmags, scrolltexts and other contemporary sources to document how the scene worked, who was involved, and how it intersected with the wider Amiga world.
The book covers 1985 through the scene's slow death around 1996 — the supply chains, the group rivalries, the race-to-release culture.
Originally a Kickstarter, you can pre-order now. Planned release date: January 2027.
