Grands Monster Slam 64 (Penguin wars)
...still a good game today.

Grand Monster Slam is one of those C64 gems that people forget existed. Released in 1989 by famous Rainbow Arts, developed by Golden Goblins.
What I did not knew so far: The game looks at least quite inspired by Penguin Wars - a 1985 arcade game where you lob balls at animals across a table. Grand Monster Slam jazzes everything more up with nice in-between mini-games and an amazing storyline.
Indeed still a very good game. I would recommend playing the Amiga-version. But the C64 is also something to look at.
